Eligible work on a listed building is subject to an application for planning permission. It is advisable to consult the DRAC (Direction régionale des affaires culturelles) before carrying out any work. Planning permission must be displayed. The owner is free to choose the architect. A declaration of completion of the work must be submitted to the town hall.
Renovation work on a listed historic monument.
Not all maintenance work on listed properties requires authorisation. Before any work can be carried out on a listed property, an application must be made to the regional conservation office for historic monuments. The prefect has 6 months to approve the work. The owner must choose the architect from a list of approved architects.

Non-eligible work.
