    Lautrec was founded in 940 and the town was built in the architectural style of a castrum, surrounded by a double fortified wall with eight gates. This region is known as a tourist crossroads due to its proximity to the Montagne Noire and the medieval city of Carcassonne. It is part of the Pays de Cocagne between Albi and Castres.
