    Architecture and history.

    The bastide of Sauveterre-de-Guyenne dates back to the 12th century. This English bastide was built under the aegis of King Edward I in 1281. It became French in 1451, two years before the end of the Hundred Years War. Sauveterre-de-Guyenne is the only bastide to have preserved the town's four entrance gates.
