For sale: a 12th century Templar commandery, altered in the 16th century, 531 m2 in wooded grounds of 2383 m2 with outbuildings including a chapel. This medieval commandery is located between Montpellier and Sète.

    The 12th-century medieval commandery.

This Templar commandery is located halfway between Sète (21 km) and Montpellier (12 km). This renovated 12th century medieval commandery, steeped in history, spans approx. 890 m2 of floor space in a dominant position and comprises: a main courtyard, a sacred chapel, a reception room, vaulted cellars, 2 kitchens, 5 bedrooms, 4 shower rooms, an office and a tower. A gîte with 2 bedrooms. A well. An old wine cellar for conversion. Walled parklands with century-old trees.

    History

The first traces of settlement date back to prehistoric times, but the village was actually founded in the Middle Ages. This commandery was built at the end of the 12th century by the Templars. When the order was dissolved in 1307, the Knights of Malta became the owners. It was renovated by the Hospitallers in the 16th century. This area of the Hérault was marked by the presence of the Templars.

    Courtyard of honour

Once through the gates, you are greeted by a courtyard of honour. On the left is an old cellar of around 300 m2 in need of conversion and a garage. A winegrower's cottage with 2 bedrooms. On the right, the entrance with its semi-circular arch leads into this medieval commandery. On the ground floor, a 20 m2 entrance hall leads to all the rooms. On the right, a sacred chapel of approx. 35 m2 with its altar. To the left is a kitchen with a fireplace (approx. 29 m2), leading to a vaulted cellar, a boiler room, a wine cellar and a cellar. A stone stairway leads to the upstairs reception rooms.

The first level of the 12th century commandery.

A landing of around 28 m2 leads to the reception rooms. On the right is the dining room with the kitchen (approx. 32 m2) featuring a large fireplace and scullery. Adjoining is a living room of approx. 71 m2 with a fireplace and recesses. The ceiling is moulded, the hallmark of the 18th century renovation. On the right, a study of approx. 30 m2 with a fireplace and doorways. A laundry room of approx. 12 m2. From the landing, a bedroom of approx. 36 m2 with a fireplace, wood panelling and parquet flooring. A 12 m2 dressing room and an 11 m2 bathroom. 2 other bedrooms ranging from 33 m2 to 20 m2. A 12 m2 bathroom.
