For sale: a 13th century castle, redesigned in the 17th/18th centuries, spanning 832 m2 in 2 hectares of wooded parklands with a chapel, outbuildings and formal garden. This walled 13th century fortified house-type castle stands in a dominant position on a rocky spur in 2 hectares of wooded parklands offering panoramic views.

    Description

15 km (9 miles) from Penne d'Agenais and 30 km (19 miles) from the Lot, this village in the Quercy Blanc region, at the crossroads of the Lot, Lot-et-Garonne and Tarn-et-Garonne departments, was built on a rocky spur. The first traces of settlement date back to the Bronze Age. But the village was actually founded in the early Middle Ages. The involvement of Gascony's nobles in the Hundred Years' War was particularly significant. Accessed via a gated path in 2 hectares of wooded parklands, this 13th-century fortified house-style castle has around 832 m2 of living space overlooking the valley.
    The 13th century castle.

This castle was built in the 13th century and is mentioned in Pope Alexander IV's bull of 1258. In 1500, Labarde became the property of the d'Aspremont family, barons of Roquecor. In the 17th century, the seigneury of Labarde became a barony, giving it the right to administer justice. In the 17th century, the castle was modified to suit the tastes of the time. The castle was occupied by different owners and gradually fell into disrepair. A couple restored it to its original glory. It has a three-storey rectangular floor plan with hipped roofs.
This 13th century castle, built of white Quercy stone and steeped in history, is set in a dominant position and comprises: a chapel with vaulted ceilings, the castle with a reception room with French-style ceiling opening onto a French-style garden, a library, a kitchen with a large fireplace, 5 bedrooms and 3 shower rooms. An independent flat with lounge and 2 bedrooms. A former stable. A confessional in an outbuilding. A 12th century tower below via a covered walkway.

    Courtyard of honour.

After passing through the gate, a driveway leads to the surrounding wall. An inner courtyard welcomes you. On the left is a 2-storey flat. A former stable of approx. 93 m2 with unfinished attic space. Adjoining is the open entrance to the chapel with its semi-circular arch. A tower and, to the right, a piegonnier with 2 outbuildings.

The ground floor of the 13th-century castle.

The main entrance to the medieval castle through a doorway leading to the rooms. On the right, the kitchen of approx. 25 m2 with a large fireplace, French ceiling and fitted kitchen. To the left of the entrance is a library of approx. 23 m2 with a fireplace, French ceiling and herringbone parquet flooring. Finally, the large reception room of approx. 60 m2 with stone fireplace, French ceiling and floor bar. Several French windows open on to a sheltered formal garden. A monumental built-in cupboard provides ample storage space. The dining room (approx. 25 m2) has a French ceiling, a storage room to the right and the boiler room. A large two-quarter turn stone staircase with intermediate landings takes you to the upper floors.

    First and second floors

The landing on the first floor welcomes you through a gallery of approx. 11 m2 that leads to the bedrooms. These two levels, each of around 150 m2, offer a privileged view over the valley. The first bedroom on the right, known as the King's bedroom, is around 28 m2 and has a shower room of around 8 m2, including an Italian-style shower. A second bedroom of around 19 m2 with a shower room including a walk-in shower and tiled floor. A third bedroom of around 23 m2 with its own shower room and walk-in shower. 2 further bedrooms of 17 m2 and 22 m2 respectively. A final shower room of 4 m2 with walk-in shower. The top floor is an unfinished attic of approx. 150 m2. All bedrooms are air-conditioned.

    The chapel.

The open entrance with a semi-circular arch of approx. 15 m2 leads to the entrance to the chapel of approx. 15 m2. The chapel is approximately 59 m2 with its altar, a stained glass window on the left, and a semi-circular arch dividing the altar from the rest of the chapel. The chapel is air-conditioned. Next to the formal garden is an outbuilding, one of the rooms of which is a confessional.
    The flat

Next to the dovecote is a flat with an entrance of approx. 15 m2 with a shower room and toilet to the left. To the right is a 32 m2 lounge with an open-plan kitchen and stone fireplace. A wooden staircase leads up to the first floor. A landing of approx. 15 m2 leads to 2 bedrooms of approx. 16 m2 and 20 m2 respectively. The entire flat is air-conditioned. Next to the dovecote, 2 outbuildings.
