Description
The Cévennes, mainly known for the war between Protestants and Catholics known as the Camisards war in the 17th century. Stevenson pioneered modern tourism by crossing the Cévennes on foot with his donkey. The Cévennes are part of the Massif Central and form a mountain range. 1 km from the village, on the heights, is this castle built in the 13th century, in need of restoration, with 900 m2 of living space overlooking the land.
The 13th-century castle
This medieval quadrilateral castle with its outbuildings and 43-hectare plot of land are in a protected agricultural zone. Built at the end of the 13th century and beginning of the 14th century, the castle's four rendered stone towers are reminiscent of fortified castles. Six sheepfolds, 2 of which are in need of renovation. Major restoration works are planned, including electrical and heating works.
Ground floor
The main entrance to this fortified house is via the south-facing façade. This small medieval castle welcomes you through a massive door opening on to an inner courtyard. The reception hall, with its French-style ceiling and bar stone floor, leads to the utility rooms. On the left, a gallery, the kitchen with its fireplace and vaulted ceilings. The scullery opens on to a small courtyard with a well. On the right, a small lounge. A dining room with vaulted ceiling and cloister arch leading to a lounge. An angled staircase with two flights turning on a stone rest leads to the first floor.
First floor
The landing on the first floor welcomes you through a gallery leading to the bedrooms and reception rooms. Reception room with library and massive fireplace. All rooms have French ceilings.
