Sold a 13th century listed castle (ISMH) altered in the 15th/17th/18th century with 1400 m2 towers in 3600 m2 of parkland near Pézenas with 17th century chapel and sheepfold. This former 13th century Templar Commandery with its 2 towers stands in a dominant position backing on to a medieval-style village in 3600 m2 of walled parklands.
    Description

The first references to the village date back to the 11th century. The Templars of Pézenas owned this stronghold. After the Order was abolished, it was taken over by the Knights of St John of Jerusalem. At the heart of the grounds is this 13th-century castle, with 1,400 m2 of living space overlooking the park. This ancient quadrilateral castle was built on the ruins of a Templar commandery. It is flanked on the south side by 2 round towers with battlements.
    The 13th century castle

This castle is listed as an ISMH historic monument in its entirety, as are the grounds and surrounding walls.
The south and east facades are adorned with crenellations, machicolations and gargoyles of feudal inspiration. The east facade features a watchtower at the rear. This 13th-century castle was remodelled in the 15th-17th-18th centuries, while retaining the medieval style of its facades. The interior of the castle has been restored to bring it into line with the comfortable homes of the 18th century. French-style ceilings, mullioned windows and Italian-style roof.

    The castle level by level

Spacious barrel-vaulted and cross-vaulted rooms with monumental ashlar fireplaces dating from the 16th century on the ground floor. 11 flats have been created. 5 ground floor flats with kitchen and bathroom.

On the 1st floor, 2 spacious flats, including one with a 73 m2 reception room and a former guard room with a stone floor. The 2 reception floors, currently converted into flats, feature 17th century French-style ceilings, stone fireplaces and marble fireplaces.

The 2nd floor comprises 4 flats with living rooms, kitchens and bathrooms. Work is planned to open up these flats to create authentic volumes. 20 luminous bedrooms on 2 levels offer a privileged view over the park.

The top floor, under the roof, offers spacious accommodation and opens onto a terrace on a tower.

The roofs and facades have been renovated.

    Chapel and outbuilding

A 130 m2 17th century chapel and its sacristy opening on to a terrace. This chapel, with its 2-arched comb bell tower, is of Romanesque inspiration. The chapel has a single nave and a large usable area.
    A 120 m2 former sheepfold.

    The grounds

This 3600 m2 park is planted with century-old trees: umbrella pines, cypresses from Provence and Tuscany. The 3600 m2 of parkland all in one piece will give you the opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
