The 17th-century paper mill.
This 17th-century paper mill, listed as a historic monument, is located in the countryside, offering a peaceful setting away from any disturbances. The property consists of the mill with a workshop converted into a drying room. The eastern part has been extended to include a mansion. This historic mill has a surface area of 512 m² per floor. The main building has two floors, offering a total surface area of approximately 1,024 m². The mansion measures approximately 176 m² and is built on top of a 170 m² cellar. The framework has been renovated, but the roof needs refreshing. An old bread oven in need of renovation is located in the annex.

History and architecture.
In the 16th century, the Charente region was chosen for the establishment of paper mills due to the quality of its rivers. This paper mill was built in 1539. It was rebuilt in its current form in 1635. In the 17th century, Angoulême paper was a benchmark for writing and printing. In the 17th century, the main customers of this paper mill were in England, Germany, Sweden and the United Provinces. The Verget mill continues to this day to produce handmade paper for luxury editions.
The inscription.
This mill has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1991. This protection helps to preserve the mill with its workshop, as well as the owner's residence, the sluice gates, the hydraulic system and the bridge.
The main residence.
The manor house.
Entrance
A terrace welcomes you as you enter this manor house. A corridor leads to the old reception rooms. Beneath this part of the building are two large vaulted rooms housing the moulding tables and hammer mills. Adjacent to the manor house is the 75-metre-long drying room.
The ground floor.
Adjacent to the vaulted rooms are barns, stables and the farm. Part of the farm has been converted into a dwelling with a separate entrance. This dwelling has a hallway leading to a living room with an open-plan kitchen, a wood-burning stove, a lounge, a bathroom and a bedroom. A terrace allows you to enjoy the peace and quiet of this place. A second dwelling has been converted.
First floor.
The 75-metre-long drying room occupies the main space of this mill. This last paper mill, which was in operation in the 17th century, will cease its activity. In 2020, this mill was selected by the Heritage Lottery.
The land.
This mill stands on a single plot of 1.7 hectares. Canals feed this mill. A mixture of meadows and woods. An old bread oven, which remains to be renovated, is located on the side of the mill.
