For sale: a 14th-century ISMH (listed historic monument) abbey for restoration in a dominant position, modified in the 19th century, with a chapter house and chapel and outbuildings on a 17.49-hectare plot in a protected agricultural zone, 29 km from Foix. This 14th century Cistercian abbey was built by Gaston Fébus' mother and stands in a dominant position. The 17.49 hectares are made up of meadows and woods. Toulouse and its capitol are 75 km away.
Description
Eleanor de Comminges, mother of Gaston Fébus and Countess of Foix, had this abbey built. Set in 17.49 hectares of protected agricultural land, this abbey, built in 1353 and in need of restoration following a fire, has 500 m2 of living space overlooking the parklands and the village. This 14th-century quadrilateral abbey with its outbuildings, chapel, chapter house and cloister area, the 19th-century castle and the 1.49-hectare walled plot are listed historic monuments (ISMH).
The 14th-century Cistercian abbey
This abbey was the only Cistercian abbey in the county of Foix built in the 14th century. The abbey was modified in the 19th century with the construction of a castle on the site of the church. A spacious terrace with swimming pool facing south-west. A spacious 2-storey sheepfold. 2 other outbuildings in need of renovation, the cloister area leading to the chapter house and its facade, chapel. Major restoration work is planned (refitting, septic tank, roofing, roof timbers).
The 19th-century castle
Accessed via a tree-lined driveway, the main 19th-century entrance is via the south-west façade and its 160 m2 terrace. This 19th century castle, built on the foundations of the 14th century church, has a floor surface area of approx. 600 m2. At the time, the castle had 3 storeys. A fire destroyed the castle, and the layout of the reception rooms on the ground floor remains. A 14th century chapel measuring approximately 46 m2.
The 14th century abbey
The cloister area of around 776 m2 contains the chapter house and its 14th century façade. An outbuilding with a vaulted room measuring approximately 835 m2. Remains of the former sheepfolds are still present and are registered on the land registry. An outbuilding of approx. 302 m2.
The land
The 17.49 hectares of land comprise 10.81 hectares of woodland and 5.19 hectares of meadows. It would be possible to build on a 3-hectare plot (a former project has been accepted).
