For sale, a partially restored 19th-century château of approximately 695 m² with a roof covering 3,363 m² of woodland. A large reception room of approximately 60 m². This château is located in the town of Orne on the border with Calvados.

    History and architecture

This 19th-century château in the town is 3 km from Flers. Flers is a commune in the Orne department on the border with Calvados, in the Normandy region. The first references to Flers date back to the 12th century. This medieval commune is located at a strategic crossroads between Orne and Calvados. At the time of the Revolution, this commune was the headquarters of the Norman Chouans. In 1793, a riot broke out against conscription and the anti-Catholic policy of the Convention. It was affected by the fighting during the landing.

    The 19th-century château

This 19th-century château in the town offers a peaceful setting away from any disturbances. The slate roof, door and window frames, ground floor and first floor of this residence have been renovated. This four-storey château with an attic has retained the authenticity of its history.

Built in the 19th century, the château is set in 3,363 m² of grounds planted with trees that are over 200 years old. Each level measures approximately 139 m², giving a total living space of around 695 m². There is a 60 m² living room with a fireplace, a small sitting room, a study and a grand staircase leading to seven bedrooms. There is also a kitchen and a utility room. The cellars cover 139 m² with interior and exterior access. This 19th-century residence offers authentic features. The sanitation system is communal.

    Entrance

After passing through the main gate, a driveway through the park with its two-hundred-year-old trees leads you to this 19th-century château. This 19th-century Norman residence with two elevations in the so-called ternary wings opens the rooms onto the grounds and accentuates the elevation. The shape of the roofs highlights the majesty of these towers. The three-bay façade with a recessed central section emphasises the main bays, which are the wings. The top floor is equipped with dormer windows called ‘chien couché’ (lying dog). A stone terrace leads you to the reception rooms.

The reception rooms of the château

The central reception room of approximately 35 m² with tiled flooring leads to the reception rooms. On the east wing of the château, there is an office of approximately 20 m² with parquet flooring and exposed stonework. Adjacent to this is a reception room with a dining room of approximately 60 m², a fireplace, English-style parquet flooring and a ceiling height of approximately 3.10 m². Large windows provide beautiful light. In the west wing, there is a front lounge of approximately 35 m² with English-style parquet flooring. A staircase leads to the cellars in the basement. A service staircase leads to the second floor. There is a lift, which is no longer in working order. The staircase on the ground floor turns left with three straight flights and a landing forming a right angle. At the rear, there is a kitchen of approximately 25 m².

    First floor.

A landing of approximately 24.02 m² welcomes you and leads to the bedrooms. 4 bedrooms ranging from approximately 16 m² to 35 m². All bedrooms have parquet flooring and ladder-style floorboards. 2 bathrooms. A staircase leads to the second floor.

    Second floor

A landing area of approximately 30 m² welcomes you and leads to the bedrooms. This level is in need of renovation. This level of approximately 139 m² leads to 6 rooms to be opened up, 2 shower rooms and a service staircase.

    Top floor

From the ground floor, a service staircase leads to this level, which has been converted into an attic of approximately 139 m². This level will allow for the new exposed rafter-bearing truss framework. It measures approximately 188 m² and includes a kitchen of approximately 40 m² to be fitted out and a former boiler room. Three bedrooms for staff and a bathroom.

    The cellars.

With interior and exterior access, these cellars have exposed beams on the ceiling and, in some rooms, Hungarian point parquet flooring.

    Location

Between Caen (59 km) and Flers (3 km), bordering Calvados, this partially restored 19th-century château offers you a haven of peace. The motorway is 45 km away, the airport is 13 km away and the SNCF train station is 3 km away. This area of Orne borders Calvados and is 3 km from shops, a hospital, two secondary schools, three middle schools and an aerodrome.
